Memory of a Presentation
On a recent to visit to the Berkshires, I had the opportunity I had the opportunity to make a presentation about one of the programs that our Rotary Club of Cali, Columbia, has been supporting for some years.
The attendees of this meeting, with their president Susan Smith, listened with close attention, which I deeply appreciate.
The description of this project can be summarized as follows:
In Cali there are many neighborhoods inhabited by people who lack the most basic needs, in other words, poverty is absolute. An enormous percentage of this population are children who, without any healthy activities, easily can fall in drug-addiction or delinquency. Because of this risky possibility, our Club decided to help organize a Symphony Youth Orchestra for these at risk children whose age range between 4 years old and 12 years old.
At the present time this children’s music organization helps support approximately 100 children by providing musical instruments and the guidance of music teachers, with the support of the Fundación Arboleda, entity that has been our partner in this project.
The help that we are requesting at the present time the Great Barrington Rotarians and any other clubs of this area, is to buy a safe place for the children to learn music and practice and to help adapt this place as a music center, so that the project will become a complete reality.
I thank you in the name of the Club that I am representing and the population of children who will benefit from all the support you may give to this project.
Thank you very much!
Best regards to all of you,
Arnobio Spitia, Secretary of the Board
